Re Johns comment to the 400 who turned up for the meeting and saying we have no alternative to offer except maybe some gated executive homes or a park and ride for the Olympics!Good joke John.
As one of the 400 I did not know it was in my remit to offer an alternative. However I'm realistic enough to know that the site will be built on eventually. Like most who attended the meeting I accept this. What could be an alternative? 1) No more 5 storey blocks but an estate mainly built with family homes with 2 to 5 bedrooms and gardens. 2) These homes to be built in keeping with most homes in the area. 3) The above being adhered to, the density would be less, certainly a lot less than 800. I personally think 500 to 600 homes being much more acceptable and in keeping with the original ratio of homes per hectare that was agreed to the earlier plans in 2006.

Basically, don't let Countryside in. I bought from them a year and a half ago and am still waiting for problems in my house to be rectified. They cannot be trusted. The area they build in will also become a nightmare as they are not that keen on clearing up after themselves.

In answer to Glen Hudson's simplistic offering along the lines of the world being built on supply and demand, yes we know but that's no reason to destroy existing communities just to prove a point true or otherwise. As already mentioned, this housing is being built simply because the developers can make money and sod the consequences. Particularly so as most of these will not be going to 'local' people anyway but more likely go towards housing the overspill from places such as Hackney. Behind it all it's all so very political though isn't it. Countryside shove in a few choice PC phrases abnout 'enrichment' and 'diversity' to keep the 'authorities' happy and suddenly they can't wait to concrete over all of us 'little Englanders' in the name of progress. Despicable!

"Over 400 residents turned up at Mondays meeting at St.Peters Church and all opposed the revised plans"

I am still concerned that while the objections mount up, no one has offered any viable alternative. Would people prefer an estate of a handful of large "executive" homes, no doubt within a gated site? Personally I think the best option would be a secure "park & ride" site until after the 2012 Olympics.

Time for action again!!
Hopefully every resident of Harold Wood will have received a green letter through their door from the Residents Association to alert them that Countryside have resubmitted altered plans (following the 'application deferred' outcome in November 09).
There is a meeting this Monday, 26th July, 7.30pm in St Peters church, Gubbins Lane where our councillor, Brian Eagling will update us. We will have a week, maximum, to respond to the new plans in writing to the council planning dept.
Lets make it a good turn out and get those letters of objection into Mercury House!

A worrying development.
Has anyone else noticed that the old 'Hari News' in Oak Road has changed this week, and become 'BARGAIN BOOZE' and title that will surely encourage anti-social behavior in the Oak Road area?
It's bad enough around the Mercury Garage already, empty cans and broken glass on that corner.

As a local resident I have seen the local councillors do nothing to lead the fight against this overdevelopment and it was clearly visible from the planning meeting that it was down to the local Residents Team of Brian Eagling, Darren Wise, Julia Rogers and the Bulletin Editor Ron Ower who informed the 300 plus residents who attended the Town Hall on a cold wet night last year of the issues around the Hospital Site. If it was not for their actions especially leading from the front, then these plans would clearly have been voted through without much challenge. I shall certainly be voting for the three residents councillors this year as I have no trust or time for the current incumbents.

I can only assume, Glen, that you are young with no family. For young couples/individuals, living in flats close to town where they can live, work and socialise in a hub of activity is great, but as a family man in my forties, I would like to commute home out of the "big smoke" and enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle, with something other than concrete tower blocks to look at. We shouldn't confuse the need for more houses in London to mean tower blocks must be built on every spare patch of land within the M25. Why must we change what we have? There is plenty of space in London to build accommodation....Romfords new flats lay largly empty as they struggle to fill them. As i have said before, these flats are not being built out of necessity for housing, they are being built because the property developers can make more money out of them.

Is everyone aware of the proposed cycle path routes? Copy email below
the Cycling [and walking route] is as follows - Noak Hill Road H Hill – Dagnam Park Drive, Hatters Wood Whitchurch Road, Central Park, Petersfield Avanue, Painesbrook Fields, A12 Eastbound, P Field Avenue, through subway, down Thurso Close, left into Elgin, right into H Court, through H Court Road, then Ivy Lodge Lane.
Surely one of the benefits of living in a cul de sac is that you don’t have strangers walking or cycling up and down your road.
Obvioulsy mothers with children and the elderly have not been considered and objections need to be raised by 12/4
