The application for the change of use of the old computer centre has been submitted, P0016.09 - Change of use from Hospital Computer Centre to Community Health Centre with associated facilities.
Looks impressive, though as they are providing a coffe shop, I assume there are expected to be long waits…

I apologise, but I fear I may have misled you Matt, I was only using Ilford as an exemplar, as it’s one of the first polyclinics in the London area.
I think that the proposed polyclinic on the Harold Wood site would be built and run by Havering PCT, though I think, based on the stated policy, that the local GPs (Oak Road and Gubbins Lane) and possibly the clinic next to St. Peter’s would be moved to the new (well thirty year old, new for the NHS I suppose) building at the back of the Harold Wood site.
Though touted as a “new idea” the polyclinic almost sound like the old style ‘cottage hospitals’ which were closed a few years ago.
One advantage would be that some minor tests and procedures would be performed at the polyclinic, whereas currently you have to go to Queens, so it will be sold as a “step forward”.

I heard yesterday on the grapevine (one of the shop owners in Station Road that lives near me) that Countryside will be given the go ahead to build all 800 odd dwellings, though it may not be immediate given the current economic crisis. If this is the case, I fear that Harold Wood is about to be lost forever.
Are there any plans in place to take this further if indeed, they do get the go ahead? They cannot be allowed to ride roughshod over our lives, merely for profit

Timelord
That’s ridiculous. How can they expect the people of Harold Wood to travel when they need to see a doctor? Also, would we come into the jurisdiction of Ilford. By law you have to change doctors when you move ‘out of the area’ in case of an epidemic outbreak, i.e. if you lived in an area under epidemic, you’re not allowed a doctor outside of the area due to the possible spreading. Surely Ilford would not include our area?
I think I’ll move!!
November 12th, 2008 at 8:23 am
Mat, I fear I mean “moved to”.
To quote the blurb on the one being built in Redbridge, “it will provide local residents with access to GPs, health, social and community care professionals all working together under one roof.”
I interpret that as meaning the GPs will be moved to the new site, unless they mean some sort of metaphorical “roof”?
By the way, McKesson move out at the end of November.

When you say ‘absorbed’ I hope that just means that they will come under the jurisdiction of the polyclinic, rather than meaning we have to travel there.
In other news, I recently looked at Countrywide’s website. Worryingly, unless they do not announce it, they always seem to get planning permission for their developments. Any news on when this one goes up before the planning department? It’s been a while now

I’m getting lonely here…
Anyway, reading the published blurb on the polyclinic that is being built in Ilford, local GP’s get asorbed into the polyclinic. So I assume on that model the existing surgeries in Oak Road and Gubbins lane will move to the polyclinic, plus possibly local dentists too.

And I can’t spell “familiar” either…
October 18th, 2008 at 11:32 am
hwvisitor, I am familar with the McKesson building, I’m old enough to remember it being built.
However, it will be a major conversion, no wheelchair access, no lifts, loos upstairs.
Interesting choice though.

In response to Timelords post - I believe any ‘polyclinic’ will most likely be within what is currently the McKesson computer centre, this is toward the rear of the site before the School of Nursing and Disablement Services Centre - it will become vacant in the new year and is ‘owned’ by the PCT.

To partly answer Mat, I would have thought 2), but they seem to be proceeding apace with the building on the Oldchurch site, which suggests 1) might be the result. Logical?
I did notice a piece in the recorder could be interpreted as saying a polyclinic was proposed for Harold Wood,
“Professor John Harvey standing in for chief executive of Havering Primary Care Trust … He identified Harold Wood as the “best place” for a new general practice surgery and outlined the plan to introduce new, larger health centres call “polyclinics” offering GP’s hospital consultants physiotherapy and sexual health to take some pressure off hospitals and picked out Rainham as one possible location.”
I understand in previous polyclinics the existing GP services are absorbed into the new facility. Will this be built on the HW hospital site?

Does anyone know if the announcement to delay (due to economic climate) in the building of the leisure facilities and 470 homes on the Rom Valley site in Romford will have a bearing on the decision on the Harold Wood site. I can see it going 1 of 2 ways.
1. They will need the extra homes now so the permission will be granted.
2. The ‘economic climate’ problems will either delay the building of or reduce the amount of properties built on the Harold Wood site.
What does anyone else think?

So what is the next step, I hear that there is due to be a public consultation meeting with the developers in September is this correct
August 15th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
I have to agree with ‘hwresident’ that it’s all rather speculation.
In view of the well advertised parking problems at the new Queen’s Hospital, perhaps the BHR PCT should have retained the HW site as a ‘park & ride’ carpark!

Those buildings for NHS use were sold to the developers. Hence their proposal went from 400 to 800+ properties.
A letter from our councillor indicated that the NHS were re-considering Harold Wood as a site for NHS buildings, but the sceptic in me is thinking it wouldnt be those buildings. Bottom line is thoufgh, is still just speculation at this point.
August 7th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Further to Tom Moores’ post about the proposed “Health Centre”, I remember that Countryside’s original plans (with around 400+ homes) had the old hospital social club / hall marked as a “G.P. Centre”. These plans also had the newer parts of the hospital marked as “future NHS use”.
There was a presentation in the hospital at the time, it must have been five or more years ago.
It would make sense as several BHR PCT departments that have not moved to Queens or KGH soldier on in pre-war buildings

When I was collctinga presciption recently, My GP told me in passing, that at a meeting with Either the NHS or PCT, (am not sure which) they were informed that it was the intention to have a medical centre on the Hospital Site. I did not have the oportunity to ask if this would reduce the number of dwellings, but will advise you if I can get any other information.

Does anyone know when the council decision on the applicaton is due to be? Also, if the application is granted, whatarethe plans for appeal?
May 6th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Out of 847 proposed, approximatly 240 are due to be “affordable housing”. I’m not exactly sure what constitutes “affordable”, but i understand it is shared ownership etc.
May 6th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Are the units going to be privately owned or housing association properties?
February 6th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Heres some facts to start off with:
Q. Who are the property developers? A. Countryside
Q. Who are Atisreal? A. Atisreal are “planning advisors” employed by Countryside
Q. How many properties are being build? A. Originally, around 2003, the proposal was for around 400 dwellings. Since then, more land has been made available for development. The current proposal is around 850 dwellings.
Q. Have plans been submitted to Havering Council? A. Atisreal stated that they were intending to submitted plans at the end of January. However, as of today, the planning office were not aware of any submission.
