Is everyone aware of the proposed cycle path routes? Copy email below
the Cycling [and walking route] is as follows - Noak Hill Road H Hill – Dagnam Park Drive, Hatters Wood Whitchurch Road, Central Park, Petersfield Avanue, Painesbrook Fields, A12 Eastbound, P Field Avenue, through subway, down Thurso Close, left into Elgin, right into H Court, through H Court Road, then Ivy Lodge Lane.
Surely one of the benefits of living in a cul de sac is that you don’t have strangers walking or cycling up and down your road.
Obvioulsy mothers with children and the elderly have not been considered and objections need to be raised by 12/4

Thank you Charlotte. However, now the plans have been submitted by Countryside, the most important thing is for people to register their opposal via the Havering Council Planning website

There is a group on Face-book called “Harold Wood - a little slice of paradise”
I have sent all 160 members who believe Harold Wood to be what the group names suggests, a message urging them to sign the petition linked to the save Harold Wood web page.

Mr M Wilson’s comments on the 3rd Feb are well expressed. He makes a cogent argument that everyone in the area should read.

  5. Mrs Nathalie Broad Says:

Harold Wood is a lovely little town and if this new development is allowed then Harold Wood will loose its identity. We already have very busy roads and to add more traffic to these roads will put pressure on the already inhabitants of Harold Wood. Rush hour will be total grid lock. If you said that each new house built will have at least two cars then there will be more than three thousand new cars on our roads. Our roads cannot take anymore traffic. The amenities in Harold Wood are stretched to the limit and there are no free places in any f the local schools, dentists or doctors. If this housing development is built then we will have to fight for places in our schools and wait even longer for an appontment in our doctors and dentists. The people who have put forward this proposal have no idea about Harold Wood and have no idea about the available amenities and the fact that there are no free places in schools, doctors and dentists. The people of Harold Wood need to get this proposal stopped and I suggest that we hold a demonstration outside the Council Offices, and Town Hall to let them know that we are all totlly against this ridiculous proposal. I believe that most people are against this and I feel that everything has been done in an underhand manner and the residence of Harold Wood have really no idea about what is going on and when meeting etc are held. The actual people who work for Countryside do not care and have no reagard for the peopel from Harold Wood, they are only interested in making money. Lets stop this now before it goes any further. If the building does go ahead I would seriously think about moving away. Harold Wood will become another town with no identity. Do we wn this to happen or are we going to fight this?

In concern to the number of dwellings being proposed. A tactic regularly used by the china clay companies who have damaged the St Austell area in Cornwall is to propose repeated developments until they finally get one approved through attrition.
It seems as if Countryside properties is trying something similar with the stepped increase in residence capacity.
Whitelands Way is a nightmare for any who live on the estates adjacent to Tesco. This proposal will only make things worse.
Please sign the petition and thankyou to the HRA bulletin for keeping us up to speed on this issue.

Thanks for your post. We are speaking with the Havering Residents Association to help publicise this website. The HRA is very concerned about the development and I have been told that they will be looking into arranging a public meeting at an appropriate time

I found this link to the government website on housing that may be of use when raising objections (Cut and paste link to read whole document)

    http://www.communities.gov.uk/documents/housing/doc/Homesforthefuture

    Section 3
Good amenities: New settlements should also be attractive places with good quality neighbourhoods and green public space. They must provide good local infrastructure – transport, schools, healthcare and community facilities. Such provision will be central to our plans, and we are setting out new procedures for councils and government departments to plan for new schools, new health facilities and improved transport facilities.

    Chapter 5 Infrastructure
    1. It is vital that people have access to good schools, healthcare, transport and other community facilities when they move into a new home. Local authorities can often agree how such facilities are provided as part of the planning process, ensuring a fair contribution by developers to the local infrastructure.

Can I ask if anything is being done to inform the other 4700 HW homes of the the save Harold Wood website resource and the petition, is someone in a high profile postion eg Cllr, MP, Res Association, able to arrange a public meeting on this issue before its to late.

Here is a copy of the letter sent to Angela Watkinson and our local councillors,

    “Dear ,

I am sure you are aware of the level of opposition to the developement of the old Harold Wood Hospital Site by Countryside Properties and for the first time in my life I feel the need to write to express my heartfelt dismay at the proposed plans. As a long term resident of Harold Wood I must say that the proposed conurbation that is presented as an acceptable proposal completely contravenes the character and personality of the surrounding area.

The local infrastructure of the area will of course be stretched to breaking point by the addition of the 874 “dwellings” that the developer intends to build and the local amenities will definately be unable to cope.

The developer speaks of research, investigations and studies which demonstrates that these fears are unfounded however there is no resident of Harold Wood with a modicum of intellect who believes these claims. One only has to witness the local roads struggling to cope with the morning rush hour traffic or wait the two weeks it takes to obtain a Doctors appointment to understand the the statistical analysis that is being presented as proof of the developers research is spurious at best.

The level of opposition to these plans is rising and I expect that the local council and yourself can expect to receive many similar communications to this one. I just hope that the voice of the local community will not be ignored.

One would ask that the council to reconsider the nature of this developement and the developer encouraged to build houses which are more in keeping with the character of the area rather than simply try to maximise profits by cramming as many individual “flats” into the area as possible. I would also hope to see investment in the local roads and support services for the increased number of residents.

As a previous employee in the building industry I am well aware of the methods employed to squeeze the maximum number of houses into the smallest possible area. Flats and high rise blocks passed off as luxury accomodation to attract the foolhardy.

I would summarise by saying that my family and I are completely opposed to these proposals and I would welcome your comments as to how you intend to support your local community in opposing this developement.”

I’m concerned that the local community will be ignored these individuals must take a stand on this one. if they don’t then it is up to us to take action to ensure these plans don’t go ahead.
